dead stack tournament question

Hi,

Last month, we had a satelite tourney 2700$ + 300$  for our 25K buy-in in May.  We had 1 seat of that 25K garanteed whatever the number of registration (min. 2 players).  The dead stack stay on for the first two levels. 

Here the question:  We had 4 players registered for that satellitte and those four players went all-in on the first hand, giving all the chips to 1 player.  So our tourney director had call the tourney to an end and declared a winner.

In our rules, the tourney director has the right to do so or decide any changes in any of our rules.  However, should the best decision would beto let the dead stacks run out, of at least wait for those 2 levels to time out or  else.

Sounds fishy.  If the TD is not going to disqualify these players for colluding, then why continue the charade by letting the stacks run out?   It is obvious, at least to me, that the players simply agreed to go all-in the first hand with the intention of splitting the prize pool four ways to make an immediate profit.  I suspect it will be difficult to sell the remaining stacks with one player effectively starting with a 4x stack anyways.

I think your TD should have waited for at least one table to fill out before starting, to avoid this problem.

I have trouble believing that your room would allow itslef to lose $13,000 on a guarantee qualifier. Obviously your management team needs to take a strong look at how they run their business. I cannot believe a casino manager would allow that to happen very long.
