Poker TDA Level 1 Certification Exam
« on: April 12, 2012, 12:30:37 AM »
The TDA has received numerous inquiries regarding the Level 1 TD Certification Exam. The Exam is now live at: http://www.pokertda.com/get-poker-tda-certified/ You must be a registered member of the Poker TDA to take the exam.

Each test is unique and consists of 40 questions selected by computer at random from a 300+ question databank. The 40 questions will be distributed across all 10 categories of the current TDA Rules. The rules are available at the following link: http://www.pokertda.com/view-poker-tda-rules/

A passing rate of 90% is required to achieve Certification. Certification will remain in effect for the longer of 2 years or until a new exam is issued based on a substantial new version of the TDA rules. Lists of currently certified examinees may be found at this link: http://www.pokertda.com/forum/index.php?board=29.0

For a more in-depth description of the exam and the registration process please see the FAQ thread in this section of the forum. Thanks to everyone who helped draft questions and volunteered for beta-testing!

Mike,

If you fail do you get any input back on which questions you failed at or why?

Kerry: Great question, yes you do, at the end of the exam.

Playground Poker Club is ready for the WPT Event in November.

All our Managers and Assistant Managers will be certified for the upcoming event.

So far, we have 10 out of 15 already certified.

Hopefully, everyone will put forth the time required to complete this examination resulting in a unified regulated poker community.

I just passed the test. I got this question wrong however, and don't understand why.

Thanks for the question, a detailed answer has been sent to your e-mail. Unfortunately we cannot post and discuss specific test questions on this forum. The answer to your question lies in Rule 42. Please review the question carefully then apply Rule 42 where a player is not yet facing a bet.

Congratulations on passing the exam btw !

Hi Hector:

I expect that Mike will have to move this post since we don't usually discuss answers to the exact questions on the exam here (you can always repost a "general" version of the question on the board for questions on TDA rules), but suffice it to say that the question relates to a POST flop situation, where no bet has yet been made.....

I don't know why I never realized that they expire before today.  Guess my certificate from Sept 2009 is no good anymore :)

Upon which version of the TDA Rules is the exam based?

The link "http://www.pokertda.com/get-poker-tda-certified/" states under "FAQs ABOUT THE POKER TDA LEVEL 1 EXAM" that the exam is based on the "most recent Poker TDA Rules and Recommended Procedures." Therefore, I studied the 2013 Rules Version 1.1, Released Aug. 11, 2013. When I decided to take the exam, I noticed that the exam noted in parenthesis as the most recent rules is "2011, Version 2.0," so I studied those rules. Subsequently, I saw that the link to the most recent rules is "http://www.pokertda.com/poker-tda-rules/." This takes one to the 2013 rules.

Before I pay to take the exam, please let me know which rules to know in order to successfully pass the TDA Certification exam.

These: http://www.pokertda.com/poker-tda-rules/  There is very little difference between 1.1 and 2.0 (differences in red below):

43:  Multiple Chip Betting
When facing a bet, unless a raise is declared first, a multiple-chip bet is a call if every chip is needed to make the call; i.e. removal of just one of the smallest chips leaves less than the call amount. Example: preflop, 200-400 blinds: A raises to 1200 total (an 800 raise), B puts out two 1000 chips without declaring raise. This is just a call because removing one 1000 chip leaves less than the amount to call (1200). If the single removal of just one of the smallest chips leaves the call amount or more, the bet is governed by the 50% standard in Rule 41. See Illustration Addendum.

49:  Non-Standard & Unclear Betting
Players use unofficial betting terms and gestures at their own risk. These may be interpreted to mean other than what the player intended. Also, whenever the size of a declared bet can reasonably have multiple meanings, it will be ruled as the lesser value. Ex: “I bet five”. If it is unclear whether “five” means 500 or 5,000, the bet stands as 500. See Rules 2, 3 & 40.

58-B: Penalty options include verbal warnings, “missed hands”, “missed rounds”, and disqualification. Missed round penalties are assessed as follows: the offender will miss one hand for every player (including the offender) at the table when the penalty is given multiplied by the number of penalty rounds.  Staff can assess 1 or more missed-hand penalties; one or more missed-round penalties, or disqualification. Repeat infractions are subject to escalating penalties.

Oops, my bad!

When I saw 2011, I clicked on the link under Older Rules Version. Now I see that those rules are Version 1.0, not 2.0.

Thanks for the clarification, Mike.
