Big Game season 2: angle shoot [Tony G]
« on: September 20, 2011, 03:24:48 PM »
Hello folks,
you are going to see in the video an interesting angle shoot made by the famous Tony Guoga against The poker brat, Phil Hellmuth.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHJsS0uEdvY

Tony G did see his cards, but he declared (after raising) that he didn't see them: based on this (and other) informations, the poker brat decided to call and discovered that Guoga was lying.
After having loosed the third pot, Tony G continued to mock Hellmuth.

Can the floorman intervene giving a penality in such a TV show?
What if this would have happened in a tournament?

TV Poker has been discussed previously on this forum.  I'll not go over what was said again.

As to your specific situation, please refer to TDA Rule 52.

You need to remember that a LOT of what goes on is MADE FOR TV.  Many, many things are allowed on the Telly that would NEVER be tolerated in a live event.

So you need to take those things into consideration.

Okay. Now you two are saying that there is something wrong with bluffing in poker? And that liars should be penalized?

I don't really see this as an angle shot, I see it is bluffing, Some have taken exception to Tony G's actions, but I don't really see it as that bad.

Phil H, makes this out to be a serious rule infringement, in what I see is yet another Phil H implosion for the tele.

Regards
Stuart

DCJ001:  I am not saying any such thing.  All I am saying is that MADE FOR TV poker has a history of allowing a LOT of stuff that would never be allowed in a "real" event and that we shouldn't get all excited when they do.

I don't think what either player did was that bad. Like Chet says, TV poker allows more than you would see in a normal situation. If that were a regular untelevised session I would expect a floor person to be at the table after some of the banter. I did not like the idea that Tony passed his cards across the table and allowed another player to see them. I was also surprised that Phil did not catch Tony peeking at his cards. I would expect a player of his experience to be more observant.

Mike Matusow did the exact same thing in the TPC at the WSOP about six years ago.

If anyone did it in a WSOP or WSOP main event, would you penalize him? If so, under what rule?

DCJ001,
If you have nothing better to do than argue with me over everything I write, I'll give you all you can handle. Mike Matusow did it about six years ago..so there you have it. Let's put it in the rules. Everybody should just listen to DCJ001's words of wisdom. What else do we need?!!
Sorry pal, you won't be passing your cards around on my table. In fact, if you ever identify yourself in person, we're going to have a real nice conversation, okay?

DCJ001:

I said it in my original response and I will repeat it again as you apparently have some sort of problem understanding what I said before,  TDA RULE FIFTY-TWO NON DISCLOSURE.  If you don't have that rule available or don't know what it says, let me know and will will post it here verbatim.
