Rookie question
« on: June 03, 2011, 03:40:15 AM »
If it has escaped anyone I am pretty new to live games, but very interested in learning rules and rulings. So pls bare with me if some of my postings reflect my rookie status :).

Here is one: I have , after reading a number of posts in this forum, come to understand that there are more rule sets out there besides the PTDA rules. The text is similar/identical in many parts but there are also differences. So far I have found the WSOP (Rio?) and the RRoP (are there more?). This raises the following question:

If a situation occurs in a casino that claims to follow the TDA rule set and that situation is not covered by the TDA rules, but it is in one of the other rule sets, can or even should the rules from the other rule sets apply?

Anders,
The objective of the TDA is to draft a standardized set of rules for poker tournaments. They are ment to supplement house rules. Rules may vary from casino to casino. In the United States, rules vary from state to state, and jurisdictions within each state may also be controlled by a State Gaming Agency, or Gaming Commission. There is not a Federal Agency (that I know of) that regulates poker rules.
If you are a new player to a casino, be sure to ask for a set of house rules so you know what you are getting into.

Pabdex:  Welcome to the TDA Forum.  You said that you are "pretty new to live games".  The only point I am bringing up here is that there is a separate thread on this site for Cash Game questions.  The vast majority of this site is for questions concerning tournaments as that is the focus and intent of the TDA.  However, there were a number of questions posed about Cash Games and that is why a separate category was created.

Your questions are always welcome.  Quite often you might find that a topic has already been discussed, sometimes at great length  :), by using the "Search" function above.  If you don't find an answer to a question, please be sure to post it.  Someone will pipe up and give you their 2 cents worth.

This Thread contains all the poker rules available online (at least that I've found to date). There are some in different languages as well and listed accordingly.
