Big Blind Ante - Ante First/No big blind?
« on: October 17, 2019, 11:10:29 AM »
I was wondering how we handle this scenario.

Blinds are SB200 BB400 BBA400
Big Blind player has 400 left, we do ante first.  Antes goes in the pot, now we have a small blind of 200, 400 in antes and no big blind.  Is that ok?

TDA 2019 RP-11: Ante Formats. No Ante Reduction
For single-payer systems, the big blind ante format (BBA) with ante-first calculation is recommended. Antes should not be reduced (including at the final table) as play progresses in the event.

Following the above: Yes, the BB should pay the ante first. The remainder, if any, is the big blind amount.  In other words, if we change your scenario such that the BB had 500 left, then 400 would go to the ante and 100 would go towards the big blind.  Sticking with your scenario, the ante is 400 and the big blind is zero.

Thank you Bill that is what I thought, could not see any other scenarios wanted to confirm.

Thanks

... the ante is 400 and the big blind is zero.

And it’s still 400 to call - just like in a non-ante tourney where the BB has less than one BB to go.

The only difference is, in the scenario presented, all the BB could win is his ante.
Superstitions are silly, childish, irrational rituals, born out of fear of the unknown.
But how much does it cost to knock on wood?

Agreed Dave, 400 to go and BB can only win antes under the ante first scenario.

Do we know if Mike Savage was ever able to get Jack Effel to agree to Ante first?  Or is WSOP staying with BB first?
