Blinds position again
« on: April 25, 2019, 04:18:05 AM »
Hello heads of Poker!

OK here I am again with those blind position questions that are so simple ... That the all TDs are divided regarding their answers!

First do we all agree on this first case:

Sit 1 Dealer Button
Sit 2 Small Blind
Sit 3 Big Blind
Sit 4 UTG etc ...

During the hand the Sit 3 is eliminated
Before the next hand starts, 1 player coming from a closing table is placed in Sit 3 (only sit open)

OK next obvious blinds are:

Sit 2 Dealer Button
Sit 3 Small Blind (!)
Sit 4 Big Blind
Sit 5 UTG etc ... Right?

So now in the following case:

Sit 1 Dealer Button
Sit 2 Small Blind
Sit 3 Nobody
Sit 4 Big Blind
Sit 5 Nobody
Sit 6 UTG etc ...

During the hand the Sit 4 is eliminated
Before the next hand starts, 3 players coming from a closing table are placed in Sit 3, 4 and 5

Where do you place the blinds please?

Solution A)
Sit 2 Dealer Button
Sit 3 Small Blind
Sit 4 Big Blind
Sit 5 UTG
Sit 6 UTG+1 (wow) etc ...

Solution B)
Sit 2 Dealer Button
Sit 3 Waits
Sit 4 Small Blind
Sit 5 Big Blind
Sit 6 UTG (again) etc ...

Solution C)
Sit 2 Dealer Button
Sit 3 Waits
Sit 4 Small Blind
Sit 5 Waits
Sit 6 Big Blind etc ...

Solution D)
Sit 2 Dealer Button
Sit 3 Waits
Sit 4 Waits
Sit 5 Small Blind
Sit 6 Big Blind etc ...

Solution E)
Sit 2 Dealer Button
Sit 3 Waits
Sit 4 Waits
Sit 5 Waits
Sit 6 Big Blind etc ... ?

To be said 90% of the European Casinos seems to use the solution A to satisfy their customers who want to play AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

Hello Guillaume,

Solution B seems to be the most rules-friendly one.

Since we use Dead Button rule, Big blind is moving one occupied seat further and SB and BTN must adapt (2015 Version, the text has been removed in 2017)

And to me, it does not make any sense to freeze the Big Blind in seat 4 like in Solution A

I realize it might need some more explaination.

There are only 2 specific situations I see this happening :
1. Tournament goes on break at the end of the hand when Seat 4 is busted. Table is broken during the break. (Seat 4 can not be assigned before because it is not the empty seats pool yet)
2. Hand for hand play (breaking a table to let the bubble start with the same amount of players on all tables)

Situation 2 is why it makes no sense to freeze the Big Blind. I don't know to explain it properly but if the BB is delayed running around the table it is some kind of advantage over the other tables. Especially when the goal is to wait for someone to bust =)
(Notice that it could be debated about the fact player in Seat 3 is not dealt-in)

Any thoughs folks ?

I've been watching this post for a few weeks. These situations are so complicated to explain, at least I seem to have a difficult time following them when I don't see them played out...probably just my problem but here is my reply.

During tournament play, whenever multiple players are eliminated on the previous hand, and the newly added players cannot be dealt out of a hand, it is in the best interest of the game to redraw for the button.

If it's a rule...they will live with it. Besides, it's a hell of a lot easier to explain than what I'm reading here.

You could even consider eliminating the last player that just posted the BB from the draw.

 Any thoughts?
