Walking Out...
« on: October 05, 2015, 12:56:21 PM »
Hi all,

A strange situation occurred last week and I wish to sound it out to you all.

Bounty tournament early level.
Player on tilt goes all in and gets a call
Upon seeing the opponent's cards (as they both reveal their cards pre-flop due to the All-In situation) and seeing he is being, he simply leaves before the hand is completed.
The player that left ends up having the winning hand.

Now what is the call to make here:
A) The pot goes to the other player because the player that left the table could not protect his hand prior to the pot being awarded?
B) The pot goes to the player that left because his hand was properly tabled and cannot be killed since it is the winning hand?
C) The hand is cancelled and all chips are refunded respectively to the original players?

I don't think A & C are viable as the hand has started, player was at his seat (rule 29) and the hand needs to be completed.  B is the answer.

Then, if the player is not found Robert's rules is pretty clear:

"If a player leaves the table for any reason and will return before 20 minutes are up, he can opt to drop every hand that occurs during his absence. He will be responsible for all antes and blinds and will be dealt cards.  Players remaining at the table, or another person designated by the absentee, will post all antes and blinds for the absent player. If the missing player is moved to another table, his chips will move and he will continue to blind appropriately at the new table. Any player who does not return within 20 minutes forfeits all his remaining chips, and are removed from the table. There will be no refunds or cash-outs given to players who leave after the first hand of the tourney is dealt"

This is the way I would handle it, but we will see what other TD are thinking...

Hi guys,

For me his hand his alive because he has pushed all-in with two living cards. That's all ! ^^

He can win the pot depending of the board ... We can't kill a winning hand, his cards are opened because he's all-in.

If he wins, his stack so his binds and ante have to be taken by dealers and he has to bust by those.
You can take the decision at your discretion to remove his chips but are you sure he will not come again after ... but on a bounty you can t, the bounty has to be in play !

You have to give him a penalty if he comes back or at the next tournament you will see him because he has disturbed your tournament by lefting ...

Or you use TDA rules in your casino or Robert's rules Max but not both for me ... except if you have a local rule saying that !

Friendly regards !

Just a quick note about Robert's rules, they most of the time cover what the TDA doesnt, and where they overlap I use TDA rules.  But in order to a have a full set you have to use something to augment the TDA rules.

When I ve began to work 9 years ago, I m using a french paper with a mix of TDA and Robert's rules ...

Robert's Rules talk a lot of rulling litigations and it's very good for a beginner or very special/strange situation !

But how our clients can accept it if we say to them that we are using TDA on a tournament.
Hope you understand my point of view.

I'm sure you are doing very good work with it too.
It's always a precious help.

Personnally, by the time, I m near to have seen everything in poker tournament & cash game ! Ahaha

Friendly regards.
