Title: Poker Team Play that meets all TDA Rules
Post by: TeamPoker101 on January 28, 2014, 04:46:22 PM
Thesis: NO-CONTACT TEAM POKER allows poker teams to compete in the same tournament and meets ALL PokerTDA Rules ( individual game no chip dumping, slow playing, or collusion ) with seating randomness that does not allow teammates on the same table with opponents See www.teampoker.com for more details and the TEAM POKER TOURNAMENT DIRECTORS GUIDE.

TEAM POKER patented system is flexible and allows Tournament Directors to structure any team size that best fits their poker room. The structure has the potential for teams to handicap themselves, by playing with less than the maximum size team, for potential larger payout. All teams pay the same entry fee. Payouts are made to both Individuals and Teams based on Tournament Directors pre-published structure. Individuals place in the tournaments as they always have, based on their Individual Finish Positions (IFP) in the Finish Count.
The patented system provides a composite point scoring system for poker team play: An individuals contribution to their Team Score (Points) is calculated from the inverse of their IFP to the full Count.

Scoring Example (preferred method; However, any weighting of finish position point scoring is possible): where the Finish Count starts at 100th place: 100th place receives 1 Team Point, 99th place receives 2 points, and 97th place receives 3 points, etc. until 1st place receives 100 points. Largest composite team point scores place in the tournament. A tie breaker (e.g. team with highest IFP) must be established.

The handicap offers an optional way to play that allows team size to vary within the same tournament, and can enhance the skill factor while making it easier to form teams. Individuals and Teams can handicap themselves to maximize their return by allowing less than the maximum number of players per team to play (Reverse Handicap). Each team pays the same entry fee. The TEAMPOKER HANDICAP is the factor or ratio created by the maximum number of players allowed per team divided by the actual. The factor is multiplied by the total team points and thus equalizes their score relative to the other teams in the tournament.

Handicap Example (1): Four players per team max. Two players play as a team and pay full team entry fee. Their handicap is 4/2 = 2. Their team points (composite of their individual points) Y is multiplied by their handicap for their total team score: 2 X Y = total team score which is compared to the other team scores to determine winners.

Handicap Example (2): Three players per team max. One player plays as a team (for scoring) and pays full team entry fee. The players handicap is 3/1 = 3. His/ her team point score (individual points) Y is multiplied by his handicap (3) for his total team score: 3 X Y = total team score which is compared to other team scores to determine winners.

Seating (randomness) protocol: Must take into account that: "no players from the same team are allowed on the same table until and unless they can play heads up, or they, or their teammates, are the only players left in the tournament". The Tournament may play as a sit-and-go (SNG) style event when teammates cannot consolidated to the same table (Creating a Hybrid of Consolidation and SNG Tournament). Until and unless consolidation can take place, there has to be at least an equal number of tables left at the end of any tournament that matches the number of players left in the team with the largest number of teammates remaining. When teammates can compete heads up with an equal number of players left per table, or there are no other opponents left in the tournament, teammates compete for individual finish positions (IFP). Therefore, by never allowing teammates to be on the same table together with opponents, players are competing as Individuals with a team composite score overlay. Also, there is no potential for cooperation, collusion, slow playing, or chip dumping among teammates; and all PokerTDA.com Rules are maintained.

Therefore, TEAM POKER provides a process where poker is still an individual game, but allows for composite scoring of poker teams and enhances the skill factor of poker.
