This depends on the severity and the frequency of the violation, but in our card room the basic scale resembles this. You can go more lenient or more severe as needed, this is just our basic guide. Multiple warnings could suffice for minor infractions, you can always ask a player to leave one day and if he does it again the next ask him to leave again for another day.
1st - Warning
2nd - Ask player to leave for the day
3rd - 30 day ban
4th - Another 30 day ban
5th - 1 year ban
I do not like the idea of making a player sit out in a live game as you would in a tournament, as it is hurting the entire table. In a tournament that player loses blinds and antes for that round, but in a live game he does not, and the other players are left playing shorter handed.
Just be sure to stress the seriousness of the situation to the player and a stern warning should suffice in most instances. I have rarely gone farther than asking a player to leave for the day.
