Usually the player asks "how much can I bet?" and the dealer will tell him that amount. It's not typical that the player wants both numbers. Sometimes the player will say "how much is the pot?" and the typical response from the dealer is to tell him what his max bet would be as that is actually what the player is asking even though he chooses different words. Certainly if a player wanted to know both what the current pot size was and what their max bet could be, you could tell him, but they often only really want to know what the max they can bet is. "You may bet up to $XXX" being the typical response to either question.
Had a Friday night regular PLO player who was a car lot manager and part time auctioneer and he would say in the most booming voice: "HOWMUCHISTHEPOT?" and once told his max bet would respond "THAT'SWHATIBET" (no spaces between words to intentionally drive home how he said the whole thing like it was all one word).
