I think the $4 straddle on 1-2 is rather antiquated and is on it's way out. $5 straddle is way faster! Faster for the dealer means more tips. Faster for the house means more rake. Faster for the players means more hands. Everyone wins.

I do agree that despite not being by the book, this is the current trend (where permitted) and certainly has the advantages Spence alludes to.
