player throw to the muck when all in
« on: November 29, 2014, 08:43:55 AM »
Here is the situation :

3 players at the hand
Player A goes all in on the flop  get 2 calls from player B and C
they keep playing and checking all the way
then after the river player B muck and then player C thought his alone and forgot about player A and throw the cards to the middle to muck the cards
Floor !

the dealer identify the cards and the floor manager make the deacition that the cards alive and turn them and that  hand won .
Is player A should have take the pot or that deacition is correct ?

what do you think ? what would you do ?

Per TDA Rule, Once all betting is complete, in an all-in situation, EACH players hole cards are to be turned face up.  It is not allowed for any player to muck their hole cards.  The dealer determines the winning hand and that player receives the pot.

Based on your description, the cards of both player B and player C are live.  It appears the decision of the floor was absolutely correct.  Player A would only be awarded the pot if that hand was the best hand of the three.

I agree with Chet. Because one of the players is all-in, the dealer must prevent any player from mucking their cards. In the event, cards were mucked and unidentifiable, the only player with cards will get the pot. Penalties should also be considered.

I agree as well.  We aren't in the business of trying to reward mistakes and technicalities.  If we can make the hand proceed the way it was supposed to, that is always the best policy.
