Title: Ho-Chunk Madison Poker Room bites the dust
Post by: chet on October 19, 2014, 05:19:36 PM
Sign just inside the floor station announced Thursday that the Poker Room at Ho-Chunk Casino in Madison Wisconsin will be closing the poker room on November 15th.  While there is a suit pending in Federal Court, my opinion is that said suit has nothing to do with the decision to close.  That decision was made based on the fact that the cannot afford the lease on the Poker Pro tables along with staff costs, when they are lucky to get one cash game going on any particular day.  Tournaments have been relatively successful, that they along won't support the room.

Starting October 26th, the Bad Beat will be disbursed as a $200 drawing each hour (assuming there is a game going) until that amount has been paid out.  The secondary will be disbursed by reducing the required hand value needed to win until it is hit.  No more details were available (as far as I know) about the secondary payout.

Too bad, but when all you do for the players is take, take, take with a $5 rake and a $1 Bad Beat drop, no freebies other than a poor rakeback program,  Along with a staff that tries, but whose hands are tied by management and a floor supervisor who (not gonna say any more).  I don't know what else they expected.

Oh well, I'll just have to go back up to the Ho-Chunk Poker Room in Wisconsin Dells (Ended up yesterday with a 3 way chop.

Chet: what's the best poker room in WI now? Is the Indian casino in Milwaukee still open?

Yes, it is open, bu tI don't go there as the staff are rude, sullen and full of themselves.  That said, it probably has the most "action" of any of the rooms.

In my opinion, Green Bay or Wisconsin Dells may be the best,  Green Bay just moved their room from the Mason Street casino to the main casino near the airport and it is really nice.

Chet, and company.  I just moved to Milwaukee and started working at Potawatomi this July as Poker Shift Manager.  I can understand where some of the complaints have come from and have been working over the last few months to get the room back on track.  If you have specific details of a negative experience you have encoutered here, I would love to hear your feedback.  Please send a PM about it.  This room has a chance to be world class, and I want to see it get there.
